VMware’s ThinApp virtualizes end-user applications within desktop virtualization deployments. By decoupling applications from the operating system by isolating and encapsulating them into encrypted executables, application deployments can be simplified, and costs associated with testing are reduced, since the technology enables multiple version of an application to run on a single OS without conflict, and the same version of the application can be run on multiple operating systems without modifications.
In addition to streamlining application deployments and migrations, VMware ThinApp also helps wth OS migrations. With ThinApp, legacy applications can be run on new operating systems, in addition to newer applications being able to be run on legacy operating systems.
VMware ThinApp allows end users to pick and choose what application to reside on their virtual desktop, while not affecting the storage required to host the desktop, since the applications can be hosted separately and be hosted to user on demand with their individual settings intact.
Security policies are also enhanced with the agent-less ThinApp. Corporate endpoints can be locked-down by running applicaiotn in user mode without locking out users, and enabling security policies that travel with the application wherever it is being deployed or used.
